Bald Rock

55mins from Stanthorpe (via Tenterfield), stands Australia's largest exposed granite rock and second largest rock in Australia to Uluru (Ayers Rock). Two marked walking tracks lead to the summit where a visitors book records successful climbs. Extensive 360° views from the top take in the granite landscape of Girraween National Park to the west and the volcanic plugs of the Tweed Valley to the east. The picnic area and short term camping ground are just a short walk from the base of the rock. Bald Rock is 1277m above sea level, and is 750m long by 500m wide.

Today I came back from Bald Rock after spending 2 nights in freezing -6 degrees celcius! Cold!! Lovely dinners, warm fires and best friends made it all better though- and the HUGE rock just waiting to be scampered and explored all over!! This morning my mother, my best friend, Kel, and I climbed Bald Rock at 5:30am to watch the sunrise! And was it worth the freezing winds and early morning?? HELL YES! It was GORGEOUS! I will post more pictures of the sunrise later.

I really like MC Escher, and this is probably my favourite work by him. (above)

For my tenth birthday I was given a book by my uncle containing all Escher's work. The card with it was also a painting by Escher. (below)

My Baby, Shadow

This is my cat, whom I love VERY much!! She was born on my birthday in 2004 (my 9th birthday). She had 4 siblings, Brain, Deino, Ethan, Pumpkin and her, Rat (she was the runt).
We were all set on getting Pumpkin, but when he was left at the bottom of the sleeping pile and sufficated, we were crushed. What now? We settled on getting another cat from the litter. And it was MY choice! My siblings and mother wanted me to get Brain, the pretty, fluffy torteshell one, but NO. I loved Rat! Then- the day came. "if you really want to...." my mother started "you can get both!"
YAY!
We chose Brain and Rat and renamed them Shadow (Rat) and Paperclip (Brain), but then we changed Paperclip to Elliot.
We were allowed to take them home 8 weeks later.
I named Shadow "Shadow" because she is the shadow of her father (my best friends cat, Jib!). He is black where she is white and vice versa...
The mother of the litter is Lily, our next door neighbours cat (Deb).
She is now 3 turning 4 on Septmeber 20th and I haven't regreted getting her since!

I do circus once a week every week and this is just one of the things we do. What we are on is called trapeze and you do all sorts of rolls, flips and stances. Some of the other things we do include:

• Silks which are long fabrics hanging form the ceiling (also known as Tissues).
• Lira, which is a metal hoop suspended by a rope in the air.
• Trampoline
• Ground work (splits, handstands cartwheels, etc).

This was the at the end of last year on a make-up day after a performance where we were allowed to bring a friend along!

Now Kel, Yarrow and I are level 1 (last year we were Over 10's).

It's really, really fun!

My Story

“Amelia!” my mother yells “Get out of bed!”
I roll over, but not before my mother yanks the covers off of me.
“Amelia!” she roars “we are going to be late!”
I groan, but I get out of bed. I rub my eyes and fumble for my clothes.
“Hurry up Amy!” she calls.
I blindly pull on my clothes and stumble into the bathroom. I pull a brush through my tangle of hair and pull it into a messy pony tail and hurry downstairs.
I rush into the kitchen to find to my mother holding my bag and lunch. I rush up to her and grab it. I wrap her into a hug and she whispers “It’s going to be O.K” into my ear. She kisses my forehead and breaks into an artificial smile.
“Now go! Or you’ll miss the bus!”
“Bye mum!” I call as I run out the door. I see the bus pulling out of May St and run to the bus stop. Just in time.

I look out the window of the bus.
“Hey!” I hear. I turn to see my best friend, Zephyr, plonk down beside me.
“Hey!” I cry and break into a smile.
“How’s it going at home?” she asks softly.
“Yeah...it’s O.K.” I reply, looking away.
“That good huh?” she asks.
“No really Zeph.” I turn to her “We’re managing.”
I suppose you want to know what’s going on. Well, my dad left a week ago. He got sick of us and then he just, well, left. Zephyr has been there for me the whole time.
I turn back to her.
“So” I say, changing the subject “Want to come to my place after school?”
“Yeah! Sure!" she replies.

I saved up until I had enough, $92.50c, and then my mother doubled it (to make $185). I then went to Cummings, clutching my piggy bank, and because I know the people who own the company, I got a family price. Afterwards I felt very proud and took photos of EVERYTHING! For my 12th birthday I was given a large memory card, which can hold at least 2000 photos at the highest resolution. Cool!
